Trek to Helambu is a delightful journey that starts from the hassle and bustle of Kathmandu city. Leaving Kathmandu, we drive to Sundarijal and climb up to reach Shivapuri ridge. From the ridge, we will be rewarded with some magnificent views of Central Himalayas. As we walk further, we traverse into Langtang National Park which is home to various rare species of floras, faunas, birds, mammals, reptiles, and butterflies. The trek, in a way, makes you close to biodiversity in their natural habitat. We pass dense forests of rhododendron, oak, and bamboo along with spectacular villages like Chisapani, Kutumsang, and Sermathang. As we walk past the villages, we will be able to get some insights on Tamang and Sherpa people, their traditional lifestyle, culture, and various other aspects. It’s truly inspiring to interact with the locals who are way too simple and cheerful at the same time. We can also observe the influence of the Tibetan Buddhist religion in the region. The prayer flags on the way and some gompas on the trail are some wonderful clues that give us the spiritual vibes of Buddhism in the region. Finally, we end our trek with a walk to Melamchi Gaon and a drive back to Kathmandu.

Helambu Trek is a short and easy trek that’s a traverse through traditional Tamang and Sherpa villages in the Lantang region of Nepal. The people residing in that region are very traditional. They have their own authentic culture, custom, tradition, festivals, language, and rituals. They are engaged in farming for livelihood. Apart from this, the people in Helambu are well known for their bamboo knitting skills and woodcraft skills. Though the world has gone far away with modernization, people here are very simple with a never-ending cheerful smile on their faces.

Trip Itinerary

Day 1 : Arrival in Kathmandu Valley (1300m)

After you land in Tribhuwan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu Valley, our representatives will welcome you with a warm gesture and take you to a hotel. Our representatives will help you with the check-in, and leave you at your respective room. You can either rest in your room, or tag along with our representative to our office. You can also stroll around the wonderful streets of Thamel, or visit nearby places. In the evening, you will be served authentic Nepalese cuisine, which is full of variety and filled with delicacy

Day 2 : Sightseeing around the Valley and Discussion regarding the trek

After having breakfast, the tour guide will pick you up from the hotel for a full day sight-seeing around the valley. The tour will head around the places of cultural and historical importance such as Pashupatinath, Swayambhunath, Bouddhanath. In the afternoon, you will have a pre-trek discussion regarding the official procedure, arrangements, nature of the trek, equipment, and team members.

Day 3 : Drive to Sundarijal, Trek to Chisapani(2300m)

After an hour-long drive to Sundarijal, you will begin trekking to Chisapani(2300m). The trek to Chisapani begins along with a small hydroelectric plant. The trek then enters into the Shivapuri National Park. The trek passes along the ridge through the forest of oaks and rhododendron, finally reaching Chisapani.

Day 4 : Trek to Kutumsang (2446m) :- 7 hrs

After an early breakfast, you will trek through open meadows while you enjoy the magnificent views of Langtang mountains. You will reach Pathi Bhanjyang and head to Gul Bhanjyang. The trail from Gul Bhanjyang climbs the ridge to another pass, and following the downhill trek from the pass reaches Kutumsang for overnight stay.

Day 5 : Trek to Thadepati (3650m):- 6 hrs

Today, you will climb above Kutumsang on a steep trail through fir and rhododendron forests. You will see no permanent settlements in this area, due to the geographical circumstances. The trek continues further to Yurin Danda, which offers an awe-inspiring view of the Himalayas. Trekking further from Yurin Danda, you reach Tharepati for overnight stay.

Day 6 : Trek to Tarkeghyang (2560m):- 6hrs

After the breakfast, follow the trail that descends to Melamchi Khola. Trek up to Tarkeghyang, passing through Sherpa settlements. You can enjoy the sparkling Himalayan peaks, glistening in the sunshine. You can discover the village, people, its old monastery, and the wondrous views of the Himalayan Peaks. Tarkeghyang is popularly known as Helambu, as most of its inhabitants are Helambu people. This monastery is considered to be one of the oldest, and biggest in the region and thus, making it culturally important.

Day 7 : Trek to Sermathang (2610m):- 3hrs

After your breakfast, you will trek on a relatively easy trail today. You will pass through the dense forests, fast streams, and high waterfalls. The trail moves around the wide valley end between the two villages Parachin village and Ganyul village (mostly inhabited by Sherpas). Following the trail further ahead from Ganyul, you will reach Sermathang for overnight stay. Seramthang is a beautiful village, filled with lively people. The local Buddhist monastery is located at the highest point of the village. You can take your time to enjoy the marvelous scenery around the village, visit the monastery and connect with the local people.

Day 8 : Trek to Melamchi Pul Bazar and drive to Kathmandu Valley:- 3hrs trek/2hrs drive

Today, you will trek down to Melamchi Pul Bazar. Sherpa mostly inhabits the village, but you can also find people from other ethnic groups. Take some time to marvel around the bazaar, find some souvenirs or connect with the local people. From there, you will grab a bus and head over to Kathmandu valley. Based on how early you reach the valley, you can go sightseeing in nearby places, or stroll around the streets of Thamel. Thamel is very lively, and people are friendly. To celebrate the successful completion of the marvelous trek, you will be treated with a farewell dinner.

Day 9 : International Departure

Today, the marvelous journey at Nepal ends. You can trade emails with companions, organize your photos, go shopping, or sightseeing. Our representatives will drop you off at the airport, before your scheduled flight and bid farewell.

As you board on your flight, you will remember the majestic mountains that shone upon you. The wondrous views will make you want to come back for your next adventure here at Nepal.
