Journey to Jomsom Muktinath starts with a wonderful sightseeing tour around the Kathmandu valley. After a day of exploration amidst the hassle and bustle of the capital city, we drive to Pokhara, a popular touristic hub in Pokhara. The very next day, we fly to Jomsom, the district headquarter of Mustang district at an altitude of 2800 meters. We commence the trek with a wonderful walk along the Kaligandaki River with spectacular views of Nilgiri Himal and Tukuche Himal on sight. We walk pass the village of Kagbeni and climb up to Muktinath. Muktinath is a popular spiritual hub in the Annapurna region. Besides its spiritual importance, the place is also a remarkable viewpoint for some magnificent views of Annapurna massif along with other mountains in the range.

Muktinath – a religious site for Hindu and Buddhist pilgrims
Muktinath temple holds a high significance amongst Hindu and Buddhist pilgrims. The name Muktinath refers to a place of liberation. As its name signifies, the place is considered as a place of liberation (Mokshya in Sanskrit) by various pilgrims. Therefore, many Hindu and Buddhist pilgrims come to visit this temple yearly. Muktinath is the temple of Lord Vishnu. As per Hindu mythology, it is considered to be the 106th temple amongst the 106 Divya Desam (premium temples). In the outer courtyard of the temples, there are 108 waterspouts which is considered to be the holy spouts that pour holy water. Buddhist call this place Chuming Gyarsa which is a Tibetan word that means a hundred waters. Buddhist consider this place to be an important place of Dakinis, goddesses of Sky Dancers. And they consider it to be one of the 24 tantric places in the world.

The amusement of Jomsom Muktinath doesn’t end here. Further, the trail traverses through the village of Marpha and Tatopani to Ghorepani. Ghorepani is a popular Gurung village in the region that is known for the sunrise/sunset views and close up views of mountains in the Annapurna range. From Ghorepani, the trail drops down along various ethnic villages, verdant hills and terraced farmlands to Nayapul. At Nayapul, we catch a ride that will drive us to Pokhara and then to Kathmandu. In this way, the journey of Jomsom Muktinath comes to an end.
