Tucked in between the Annapurna and Manaslu region, Nar Phu valley is a hidden gem that treasures the awesome mix of ancient Buddhist religion and empowering the Himalayas. Nar Phu valley was unknown to the rest of the world till 2003. In 2003, the region was opened for foreign tourists. However, the region is still listed under the restricted region by the Government of Nepal. Therefore, even today a special permit is required to enter into the region.

Why Nar Phu Valley Trek is a traveler’s delight?
Nar Phu Valley takes you to some untouched sections of Nepal that lie very close to the Annapurna Circuit Trail. Often regarded as the hidden valley, This Valley is an outstanding location that treasures some medieval period remains of Buddhism. The ancient monasteries, gompas, caves and the traditional people who have been following the same traditional culture and religion. The local folks residing in these areas are completely different than the rest of the world. They have almost no connection to the rest of the world and aren’t influenced by any touch of modernization. People live a simple and traditional life enjoy their inherited culture, tradition and lifestyle. Apart from a religious and cultural perspective, the valley is a natural boon. This Trek combines high peaks, high passes, glaciers, dense forests, amazing rock formations, yak pastures, and remote villages. As you walk pass the trial, you will be blessed with some amazing views of mountains and mountainous landscapes. From the top of Kang La pass, you will be rewarded with some magnificent views of Annapurna Himal, Gangapurna and Tilicho peak. Hence, Nar Phu Valley Trek is a traveler’s delight.

The amazing trail to Nar Phu Valley
Nar Phu Valley Trek starts with a wonderful drive from Kathmandu to Syanje/Jagat via Besisahar. It is also the commencement of the traditional Annapurna Circuit Trek. We follow the same trail for a while and diverse to a trail that leads us to the remote valley of Nar Phu. The trail to the valley is adorned with beautiful chortens, colorful prayer flags, deep canyons, and gorges. We walk pass the beautiful forests of rhododendron to open up into the valley. As you enter into the valley, you will be blessed with some magnificence of snow-clad mountains.  

We pass stops like Koto and Meta on the way to enter into Phu village. We explore the village and walk back to the Nar Phedi monastery. We visit the monastery and climb up to Nar village. Nar and Phu village is a perfect example of the traditional village under the influence of Tibetan Buddhist religion, culture and lifestyle. From Nar village, we ascend up to cross Kang La pass at an elevation of 5315 meters. Further, we descend down to Ngwal and join a route to connects Annapurna Circuit Trail. We walk pass Manang to climb up to Thorong La Phedi. We cross Thorong La pass and walk back to Jomsom via Muktinath. From Jomsom, we take a flight to Pokhara and drive back to Kathmandu. In this way, we end the wonderful journey to Nar Phu Valley.

Welcome to Nepal. A representative from Eye on Himalaya Treks and Expedition P. Ltd will welcome you at the airport and transfer to a hotel in Kathmandu. For the remaining time, you can rest at your hotel and make yourself with the new environment. Tonight at Kathmandu

Today, as a part of your sightseeing day tour, you will be driven to different UNESCO listed heritage sites around Kathmandu. Kathmandu Durbar Square, Swayambhunath stupa, Pashupatinath temple and Boudhanath stupa are included in today’s day tour. If you need anything for your climbing journey ahead, you can buy some last minute items today. You can also utilize this day for trek preparation purpose. Tonight at Kathmandu

Early in the morning, we pick you up for a scenic drive along the highway route to Jagat via Besisahar. It takes around eight hours for us to reach Jagat. The drive goes along countryside Nepal where we can get some enchanting views of hills, rivers, valleys and villages. Tonight at Jagat

After breakfast, we start our trekking journey. We follow a trail that climbs up gradually along an easy path to Chame. At Chame, we cross a suspension bridge over a river to follow a rocky trail that goes up steep to Tal village. At Tal, we can relish some wonderful views of waterfalls. From here, we continue start to the village of Dharapani. Tonight at Dharapani

Today, we traverse into the beautiful Nar Phu Valley. It takes us around five hours to enter into the valley. The trail goes through the lush forests of pine, rhododendron and fir. We also cross monasteries and villages on our way to Bagarchap. The trail blesses us with wonderful views of Annapurna II, Manaslu and other peaks on the way. We continue through the trail until we reach the village of Koto. Koto is a small village inhabited by the people from Gurung community Tonight at Koto.

We start our day early with a breakfast at the guesthouse. Then we follow our trial that goes to a bank of the river. We cross the river to enter into a valley with Nar and Phu villages. As we traverse close to the valley, we are already at the isolated sections of the trek. Unlike the neighboring Annapurna circuit trek, the region doesn’t contain well-facilitated guesthouses. The trail for the day passes through dense rhododendron forests and small caves. We even pass a waterfall on the way with amazing vistas of Himalayas on sight. Finally, we climb up steep to get to Meta. Tonight at Meta

Today, we leave Meta and walk towards the Phu gaon. As we come out of Meta, we can see colorful chortens and prayer flags on our walk that goes up along a ridge with some fascinating views of Nar Phedi monastery. From here, we walk for few more hours along the canyons and gorges to climb up steep to Phu village. From the top, we will be blessed with some stunning views of villages and a dzong located on a flatland just before the village. From the top, we descend down to cross a river and enter the village of Phu. As soon as we reach the village, we walk towards Tashi Lhakhang gompa to visit the gompa. Tonight at Phu Gaon.

Today, we spend our time exploring the village of Phu. It is good from the acclimatization perspective as well. We have two options for the day. We can either walk across the narrow alleyways of the village or hike up to the Himlung Himal Base Camp. Phu is an interesting village with traditional people who resemble to that of Tibetans. We can explore people in the village and watch them perform their daily chores or extra activities like spin the yak/sheep wool. Tonight at Phu Gaon

Leaving Phu village, we take the trail back to Meta but then divert towards Nar Phedi monastery. We stay at the monastery for the night. Here, we can observe the welcoming nuns. The rooms are neat and clean and we can join them in the kitchen to prepare food. In the dusk, we can watch them perform their daily worship (puja). After dinner, we can relax cozily in the wonderful rooms of the monastery. Tonight at Nar Phedi Monastery

It’s a wonderful day today. We climb up from Nar Phedi and follow a trail uphill that leads us to the beautiful village of Nar. The painted bamboo topped chorten on the way to the village looks very appealing. Nar village is even more interesting than Phu. Here, we can observe women chatting and busy weaving the wool fabrics for preparing rugs and blankets. The small white painted houses and the pristine environment, Nar village is truly an incredible experience. Tonight at Nar village.

After all these pleasing days, it’s time for something challenging. Today, we get started early before sunrise. We head towards the Kang La pass which will lead us to the Annapurna Circuit Trail. Kang la pass at an altitude of 5322m is not much difficult but elevation and bad weather can be a real challenge. We cross the pass admiring the magnificent views of Annapurna II, Gangapurna and Tilicho peak. From the pass, we descend down steep along a scenic route to Ngwal. Tonight at Ngwal

As we descend down from the pass, the atmosphere begins to get more lush and vibrant. We descend down to the Braga village and cross a bridge over the Marsyandi river. We explore a monastery in the village and leave the trail to Tilicho lake. From the lake, we walk further to the village of Manang. Manang is a huge settlement area in that region. The place consists of many shops and guesthouses to cater the need of travelers. Tonight at Manang.

From Manang, we follow a trail of Annapurna Circuit and climb up for an hour to Tenki Mnanag. From here, one can enjoy some captivating close-up views of Annapurna, Gangapurna and Tilicho peak. Slowly the trail winds up with some breathtaking views of juniper bushes and wild terrain. We come above the tree line area and open up to the vast pastures of Yak Kharka. Tonight at Yak Kharka

We slowly climb up from the Yak Kharka to Thorong La Phedi enjoying some engrossing views of mountains and mountainous landscape. From Yak Kharka, we climb up to Ledar and then to the east bank of Jorsang river. Then the trail descends down to cross a wooden bridge over a small stream. Then we cross a narrow path and climb up a steep slope to reach Thorong Phedi, the foot of Thorong La pass. Tonight at Thorong La Phedi

Today, we climb up to the Thorong La pass at an elevation of 5416 meters. We cross the pass enjoying some breathtaking views of mountains in Annapurna panorama along with other mountain views and outstanding landscapes. After crossing the pass, we descend down to Muktinath, a popular spiritual hub for Hindus and Buddhist pilgrims in the Annapurna region. Tonight at Muktinath

We wake up amidst the wonderful views of mountains in Muktinath. From Muktinath, we descend down a scenic route and pass some interesting villages on the way to Jomsom. We pass various villages like Kagbeni and Marpha to get to Jomsom. At Jomsom, one can enjoy some warm hospitality of local Gurung people. Tonight at Jomsom

We take an early flight to Pokhara today. If you have enough energy left for exploration, you can set out for a sightseeing tour around Pokhara valley. Or else, you can relax at your hotel room. In the evening, you can walk along the lakeside Pokhara applauding the gorgeous views of mountains, colorful boats and serene environment. Tonight at Pokhara

Today, we take a scenic drive along the highway and return back to the capital city of Kathmandu. Upon arrival, you will be dropped at your hotel room in Kathmandu. You can relax at the hotel for rest of the time. Tonight at Kathmandu
